Do you love listening to Shadows and Daylight? It can be fun to listen along and immerse yourself in a story, but how would you like a chance to go one step further and try out to be in Shadows and Daylight? We're holding general open auditions, which means any voice, any age, any gender, we're open to hearing what you've got! We can't guarantee you'll get a role on the show, but we will prayerfully consider the auditions. Details:How do I audition?
Simple, just send us an email (use the contact form) letting us know you would like to try out. You can send a link to a production you've acted in before, but if you haven't acted in anything before, don't worry, you still can audition, just ask us how to go about that when you email us. Do I need to live near the studio or travel? Nope. Thanks to the Internet GreenStreams Studio has worked with many different people in entirely different countries and continents on our various productions. We'll explain the remote recording process to you once you have contacted us. Do I need experience? Experience is not required, but is always an asset. We'll be praying about the auditions, and feel that it's more important who God chooses, than it is about prior experience levels. Do I need recording equipment? Unless you are living within a reasonable commute to our studio, or can travel periodically, you will need access to recording equipment, or to be willing to purchase some out of your own pocket. Shadows and Daylight actors are volunteers and will have to get access to recording equipment themselves (unless they have the means to come to our studio). Fortunately, this day and age access to decent recording equipment is cheaper and easier than ever before. We can discuss what equipment you have, and cheap solutions if you need to purchase any equipment. How committed do I need to be? Excitement and commitment are more valuable than skills are in the long run. Skills can be learned, excitement and commitment have to be self-motivated. If you love Shadows and Daylight and acting, and are willing to solidly commit to have 2 hours a week set aside exclusively for Shadows and Daylight, you will be one of our favourite people. Episode 3 "The Cross Tattoo" just released on Monday and I wanted to give you a personal note in regards to the story-line so that there wouldn't be any confusion. *Just beware*, if you haven't heard the episode yet, this will contain *spoilers*. During the course of the story Winter determines that a gang called the "Thols" may be connected to a local Catholic priest, her suspicions are confirmed and Father Donald turns out not to be what he represents. I want to be clear this isn't saying anything against Catholics but is an isolated reference only. Having a real relationship with Jesus Christ is what defines a Christian and that's what matters most. That's a big part of what Shadows and Daylight is about. You see, the two gangs, the Prots and the Thols actually serve as an allegory for two of the major influences in Christianity today. But more specifically they serve as an allegory for when people take things to the extreme, but they don't by any means represent all of any group. The stories in Shadows and Daylight try to convey what happens when the assumptions of man are taken too far and leave Jesus out of the picture. We hope to show characters, on all sides, trying to sincerely search for the Truth and we pray that anyone in this search will find the Truth (aka Jesus Christ). Our effort is to show that our denominations don't save us, Jesus does. I just wanted to make sure you understood, and didn't feel that any Christian denominations are being made out to be the bad guys. Thanks so much for listening and reading this posts! Please let me know if you have any questions. Episode 2 "An Eye for An Eye" will be released soon! The final mix was mixed last night, and we are so very excited to share it with you all. In Christ, Christopher Green Update I've been doing some more intense editing on episode too, and music scoring will start soon (Lord willing). In a studio, there are often multiple projects on the go at once, and (praise God) we are quite busy right now, and music has been in high demand. I am confident the music will be done within a reasonable time though. Sound Design Lesson While working on this episode, I have broken a personal record. Before the music is even in, the second episode has almost exceeded 40 tracks in the session file. Yup! I kid you not. As someone who is still growing in his skills however, I can't quite track that many in my head at once. Right now I have grown to be able to keep track of about 25 or 26. And this leads me to an important point: in digital, we have virtually no limits, and we need to give ourselves some. In the old days of audio, you would be limited to a very definite amount of tracks due to physical track slots. Now in digital, our software offer us relatively limitless possibilities. This can be daunting, especially if you are non-linear, non-analytical, big picture person. When you are face with limitless possibilities it can be more intimidating that exciting. If you go to a restaurant, you don't read a menu with 2000 options for dinner. You pick a section and read the part you are interested in. An excellent site for sound designers and mixers called The Recording Revolution advises us to: “Limit yourself like your life depends on it.” - Graham Cochrane Which is to say, “less is more.” In my current session (for episode 2) I have 15+ dialogue tracks, 10+ sound effects/Foley/ambient track, etc. In reality, I don't need that many, it was just convenient as I was working. Now it is a mess, and I need to pair down these tracks. My advice is to give yourself a limit in your track count. Just pick a number you thing you can deal with at the start of the project (pray about it if you aren't sure) and then stick to that. If you are newer to audio, I would recommend sticking to around 15 or 16 as your “maximum”. Right now, I think I need to keep my maximum around 26 or less. I hope this update was informative, and that this audio lesson was useful for you. What are some of the tips or tricks you have learned in audio? In Christ, Christopher Green Shadows and Daylight producer Oh hey, by the way! For another audio tip, check out Christopher's blog post on headphones and speakers!
Hi everyone,
For those interested in Shadows and Daylight, you will be happy to know I (Christopher) am in the editing room tomorrow to prep the 2nd episode for Natasha to score the music to! Meanwhile more recording sessions are gong on and being set up with actors and God has been pouring out ideas for season 2! I don't even know yet where he is going with this, but it's really exciting! God bless, Christopher Green |
